The Supreme Court recently took away protections from billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros’ affiliated organizations. LPHS appellate partner David Coale explains the recent move. “What it said was Mr. Soros has these oversees, foreign entities that he does some charitable work with, and if he wants the support of the United States foreign aid, he has to agree with certain policy statements that the U.S. requires you to accept as a condition of taking that aid. It is a way the U.S. can leverage its money, when it gets money to something it gets some other benefits with that aside from just spending it. And he had resisted that because he wanted more flexibility with the operations of his agencies.”
